Swine flu: according to Minister Zaia "Italian meat does not pose any risk"

The Minister of Food Agriculture and Forestry Policy for the Italian Government, Luca Zaia, reassured Italian consumers that there was no risk of contamination of Italian pork in relation to the swine flu that broke out in Mexico recently. According to Mr Zaia’s statement, “in Italy you can continue to consume pork in peace of mind, without any fear, because it is a safe product and eating it does not pose any health risk”. The Minister pointed out that the fear, which he said was unfounded, of eating cold meats in Italy posed a risk of negatively affecting the price of pork, which would have negative consequences in the pig-farming sector that represented an important segment of national agriculture. Mr Zaia also announced that the Italian Parliament would soon discuss a draft law for labelling Italian food products.
